Welton Transfer site is a transfer station for domestic waste collected by refuse lorries and a recycling centre for anything from household DIY waste to white goods. The scope of works as set out by our customer was to strip out and remove the existing galvanised tank located on piers in a small pump room and in its place, a replacement GRP hot press sectional tank.
The tank has a dual purpose and is being used to supply the fire hose reel and dust suppression systems. Prior to our arrival on site the
existing connecting pipework was removed by others in preparation for the strip out and installation. Our first task was to remove the existing galvanised tank in sections, starting with the front side panels and lid, then the remaining side panels and finally the base.
The tank base piers were then surveyed using a laser level, base levelling steels were laid over the piers and shimmed to meet the British Standard for water tank installation, 2mm in 1 metre and 6mm in every 6 metres. The panels requiring connections are then drilled and fitted out prior to installation. The base panels are then laid, lightly tightened together and the remaining panels fitted in sections. The entire strip out and install took less than 2 days, this was helped by the easy access to and from the installation area along with the experience of our engineers and the quality of their work in these types of projects.
